I’m fucking tired of media creators pitting minorities against each other in shipping. “Oh, it’s so racist that sterek shippers replace Braeden with Stiles in their edits.”

No, it’s not. You’ve got your canon. Please leave us the fuck alone. We were here first and we’ve got nothing to show for it. They won’t even say our name in public. You’ve won. Let us do our thing in peace. All you need to do to see your pairing is turn on the TV.

Let us see ours in our own fucking spaces.

The moment when Harry takes Draco's wand

  • J. K. Rowling:

I said to Arthur, my American editor - we had an interesting conversation during the editing of seven - the moment when Harry takes Draco's wand, Arthur said, God, that's the moment when the ownership of the Elder wand is actually transferred? And I said, that's right. He said, shouldn't that be a bit more dramatic? And I said, no, not at all, the reverse. I said to Arthur, I think it really puts the elaborate, grandiose plans of Dumbledore and Voldemort in their place. That actually the history of the wizarding world hinged on two teenage boys wrestling with each other. They weren't even using magic. It became an ugly little corner tussle for the possession of wands. And I really liked that - that very human moment, as opposed to these two wizards who were twitching strings and manipulating and implanting information and husbanding information and guarding information, you know? Ultimately it just came down to that, a little scuffle and fistfight in the corner and pulling a wand away.

  • Melissa Anelli:

It says a lot about the world at large, I think, about conflict in the world, it's these little things -

  • J. K. Rowing:

And the difference one individual can make. Always, the difference one individual can make.

I don't even know why I'm bothering with this but Malia and Braeden have been developed beyond their relationships. Malia is dealing with fitting in and with Peter and it's done in multiple scenes without Stiles or a mention of him. Braeden was a kickass mercenary before Derek, she's a kickass mercenary with Derek and she's a strong female character who knows herself and her place in the world and is helping teach Derek do. Being in a relationship doesn't make them weaker.

colethewolf:

Oh, I never said being in a relationship makes them weaker. Both Malia and Braeden are both physically strong. Malia is a werecoyote, and Braeden can fight.

However, both Malia and Braeden exist mainly for Stiles and Derek. Don’t believe me? Allow me to explain.

Malia was introduced as a girl who went missing when she was 9, spent her life as a coyote, and turned back into a human at 17. Now, the first “real” episode that she was in (a.k.a the episode where she actually had lines to speak) was 3x20, and what was her purpose in that episode? To hook up with Stiles so Stalia could happen in s4.

Then, it just so happened that she was Peter’s long lost daughter. Doesn’t make any sense, but hey. They needed to give her another seemingly important piece of purpose so that they could act like she means more to the show than to just fuck Stiles.

Braeden was a mercenary back in 3a and she saved Isaac. But then she died (i’m serious. She wasn’t originally supposed to survive Deucalion’s attack, because why the fuck would Deucalion leave somebody alive, who would have alerted Scott to his plans?) But I guess Jeff heard all the shit being flung his way about him killing off all female characters and POC, so he brought her back.

And how did he bring her back? To save Derek (nobody knows why), and the first thing she did was check out Derek’s body while he was chained up, thus setting the flimsy ass foundation for Draeden in s4.

Then s4 happened, and her main purpose is to be Derek’s own personal sex toy, but Jeff tried to cover that up by making Derek hire her to find Kate. (still nobody knows why. Why would he hire somebody he doesn’t even fucking know????)

So. Malia exists mainly for Stiles, and for Peter. Braeden exists solely for Derek. Both are female characters that exist for the main purpose of being sex objects for Stiles and Derek.

They may be badass, but they are utterly useless, in terms of their relevance to the show.
